What is a Superinscription?
A Superinscription is an ordinal that combines multiple large blocks worth of data recursively into a single object. To embody this terminology, the data needs to total over 4 mb of recursion calls into a single data point.
A standard maximum individual inscription size is 400 kb (based on transaction size limitations). Historically, it has only been possible to exceed this in collaboration with a miner, in a process that can fill a single block of Bitcoin data with media up to 4 mb in size.
The LUX’s current build combines ~160 different inscriptions into a single ordinal artwork. Currently, the LUX is compiled from 18 mb of onchain data (more than 4 full blocks worth) and will continue to grow over time. This unprecedented building approach brings a vastly expanded set of future build possibilities to the blockchain, allowing for design intricacies not previously achievable.
